Serendipity
Much though I enjoy drawing with enamel on glass, sometimes I like to let the glass take its own path, to achieve a gestural freedom that contrasts with the control I exercise in my enamel works.
Working with clear glass lined with transparent blue, reactive colour is melted into the surface with results that remind me of the bold strokes of impressionist painters. Clear and blue blown glass with reactive frit. 19 cm h x 11 cm dia.
Deliberately overblowing the glass and letting itself collapse back on itself captures the movement of molten glass with swirls of colour. Clear and blue blown glass, reactive frit. 27 cm h x 8 cm dia.
Working with coloured shards from failed pieces, melted into a clear glass form, gives an increased subtlety and movement to the colour. Clear blown glass with multicolour shards, 20 cm h x 7 cm dia.
